Body Piercing Information – Is It Painful?

Piercing | Comments (0) admin @ 4:10 pm

The one thing most first timers want to know when looking for body piercing information is if it is painful. After all it certainly sounds painful. You've go something making a puncture wound in your skin and a piece of jewelry going through the hole that it leaves. That alone is enough to keep many people who otherwise might take the plunge from going through with something they might love for years.

Fear not. We'll be honest with you and say that yes there is some pain involved, but it's not nearly what you might expect. If you're scared, the first thing you should do is talk to a friend who has already had it done to the part you are considering. Remember that different piercings will likely have different degrees of pain. Let them give you all the details, and chances are, you'll find you really have very little to be frightened about. Even if your friend had complications, he or she will probably be able to give you some comfort. And remember complications do not happen often.

Next talk with the person who will do your piercing. Not only can they walk you through the process, their experience will let you know which piercings are more painful. And of course you'll want to follow the healing guidelines to the letter.

Naturally, you can expect to hear different things from different people. If you are looking for a general rule, most will probably say that getting the tongue done hurts the most. But it's not uncommon to find others who will tell you that the navel area hurts more. This is anatomy 101. The tongue has an uncanny ability to heal itself. It can recover quickly. Did you ever bite your tongue by accident? Usually it only takes a couple of days to heal. Imagine that same bite wound on your belly button. The healing process would surely take longer than that. The biggest problem associated with tongue piercing is not pain or bleeding, but swelling.

Belly button piercings actually take longer to heal and typically have more problems. Sometimes they can take up to a year to heal fully. Part of that comes from the area of the body, but also remember that a piercing on the belly button is more likely to be moved around and even possibly snagged on clothing. This will only irritate the area and of course, make the healing take much longer.

As far as the intial pain goes, some parlors take care of this by applying a spray or lotion which has the effect of freezing the area. If this is something you think you want, check beforehand because not all piercers will use this. Of course you may not need it either. Most people who do piercings are very well trained and know how to keep your pain to a minimum.

Another good thing to do if you are nervous is to bring along a friend. No they can't reduce the pain, but they can make you more comfortable. And of course stay away from alcohol and drugs before you go. For starters, most salons won't do the job if they believe you are under the influence. But even if you've been taking aspirin you should consider waiting. Aspirin thins the blood and may cause more bleeding than expected.
